Today Comcast announced a new eye-control system that allows people with physical disabilities to control their TV with their eyes.
In its purist form, this is a great fucking idea for people who are unable to enjoy the most basic entertainment our world offers.
But have we learned nothing from Facebook? This is nothing more than exploiting people with disabilities to slowly seep in a system that allows the media industry to monitor what you are looking at.
Why should you care?
It’s going to start with the disabled, but then it will slowly creep into the mainstream. They don’t give a damn that disabled people can control their TV easily. They care what the mainstream look at and how they can use that to manipulate you to engage you into watching more content/ads based on what you watch.
Until I see their privacy policy, what data they collect and how much control I have over that, you can’t convince me otherwise.
