When talking about caretaking technology, inevitably the question arises–“what if my Internet goes down?” If life and death are determined by an Internet connection, that’s a bit of a weak link in the plan. Thankfully, on the Alexa front, Amazon has taken baby steps to solve this problem.
How Does Alexa Work?
According to Digital Trends, “Amazon Alexa is what Siri is to Apple.” The virtual assistant program cannot be bought on its own, however, is referred to as upon once using Amazon devices, like an Echo, Dot, or Tap.
It’s currently even compatible with some third-party vendors. Alexa reportedly mimics conversations and analyzes voice commands. So what can she actually do? Digital Trends revealed an inventory of handy tasks that the lifelike assistant will assist you with.
This includes “playing music,” and controlling your vacuum to reading a Kindle book to you, paying your bills with AN app and ordering just about something you would like on-line.
Does Alexa Work Without An Internet Connection?
Starting with the Echo Plus and Echo Show (2nd Generation), Alexa can now do very basic operations even when there is no connection to the Internet. Granted, these aren’t life-changing operations (yet!), but at least now they have the software running on the Alexa that works locally, so it’s just going to more super-awesome from here.
According to their documentation, these are the supported operations:
- Control compatible smart home devices, including switches, lights, and plugs, that are connected directly to your Echo device.
- Ask for the time or date.
- Stop or cancel alarms, reminders, and timers that were set before your Echo device went offline.
- Control the device’s volume.
Why Alexa Does Not Work Without Wi-Fi before 2019?
Amazon’s Alexa is a device that strictly revolves around wireless fidelity to access everything from Google to numerous music-streaming services.
Without WiFi, it’s merely not possible to attach to those applications and options.
In order to make the most out of your Amazon Alexa investment, a Wi-Fi connection or hotspot must be available to get started and to take advantage of all that the device has to offer.
